WWII Mitchell Bomber Visit - Sarnia 11-15 July 2018
A tribute to the men and women of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and US forces (USAF) that flew and maintained these incredible machines so that we could live free of the tyranny of dictators and those who would support them or blindly follow them.
Thanks Golden Hawks - This video was done for the annual gathering of F-86 Saber Pilots dinner Oct 2016, in Ottawa as a tribute to Canada's original jet formation demonstration team the "Golden Hawks". There were still some Golden Hawks in attendance that year including Team LEAD, F/L Claude Villeneuve (sitting on the wing). Making this video combined some special memories of seeing their performance live when I was 10, my subsequent career in the RCAF, my love for flight simulation and my current work now as a drone pilot, all at once, along with learning Video and Audio editing. Quite a challenge. The drone flying sequences were on a perfect day with calm winds, bright sun and no one around.
Ice Breakup at Canatara Beach Lake Huron made for some interesting wave structures. This is drone footage but hand-held in icy spray, 30mph wind, 2degC Mavic2 Enterprise 4K UHD some at 1080p 120fps.
(the slow motion action of the waves is just fascinating)
At the going down of the sun . . . .
Harvest time in southern Ontario and "Flyin' Farmer" Jim Blackman's got no time for flying.
The crops are ready and the weather is dry. Nothing else to do but ride!

Traveling on my way to London ON Hwy 402 early one morning I pulled off the exit when I saw the light of the sunrise colours. I often travel with my Mavic and fresh batteries so I spent about 40 min or more capturing the colours and motion of these amazing machines. A little fog and slow motion was nice too. Rare opportunity that worked out. I could probably make 3 videos like this of other footage. These are the chance opportunities that make flying fun.

This sequence took nearly 8 months to produce as spring morphs into summer and then fall. Still trying get back there to get the winter snow sequence after almost 2 years now.

1,000 Feet of Steel - One of my earliest videos, this was a scary flight about a mile offshore north or the Bluewater Bridge in Sarnia. I remember thinking I would never see this bird again. I went over the path of the oncoming freighter (over 1000 feet long) and pointed the camera straight down at about 150-180ft, mentally calculating I was above the tallest antenna of the ship. . . and "WAITED". Seemed to take forever, but it came out the other end with an amazing shot. Worth the risk? hmmmm

Solar Reflections - This is the Sarnia Enbridge Solar Farm . . First installed as 20MW in 2009 it now is some 97MW a year later. This sequence was shot from outside the farm over an old Sarnia landfill site, now natural habitat for waterfowl. What caught my attention here is the beautiful cloud reflections in the panels. More recent Infrared footage under FLIR.
